Karyn DeMartini is the Vice President of Major, Principal, and Planned Giving at March of Dimes, where she has dedicated 25 years of service across various leadership roles at the local, state, and national levels of the organization. In her current position, Karyn leads the organization’s philanthropy initiatives, focusing on building and nurturing long-standing relationships with individual donors. Her approach is centered on aligning the organization’s mission with the values of donors, fostering deep connections that drive meaningful impact and sustainable support.
A key leader in the establishment of the March of Dimes Innovation Fund, Karyn was instrumental in launching the organization’s first venture philanthropy and impact investing initiative. The Innovation Fund is designed to support investment in mission-aligned start-up companies, while creating a financially sustainable model to advance the organization’s work in maternal and infant health. Karyn’s leadership has been instrumental in securing several of the largest gifts in the organization’s history, supporting its groundbreaking research portfolio and lead funding for the Innovation Fund.
Prior to her current role, Karyn served as the State Director of the March of Dimes California Chapter, the organization’s second-largest chapter. Under her leadership, the chapter achieved significant successes in mission-driven work, including a groundbreaking initiative to reduce non-medically indicated elective deliveries and C-sections by 84% across the country. The chapter also was recognized for its exceptional advocacy achievements, fundraising growth, communications reach, and earned multiple Chapter of the Year awards.
Before joining March of Dimes, Karyn held leadership roles at several smaller nonprofits along the San Francisco Peninsula, where she cultivated her passion for nonprofit leadership and applying a business mindset to social impact. She holds an MBA from Santa Clara University and began her career as a full-time volunteer running an inner-city after-school program on the East Coast through the Jesuit Volunteer Corps.
A native of the Bay Area, Karyn resides just outside San Francisco with her husband, two teenage children, and dog, Poppy. Outside of work, she enjoys cooking, entertaining friends and family, reading, and practicing meditation and yoga.
