Senior Associate Director, Development, Institutional Giving
Bread for the City
Kristen Kozlowski is a fundraising professional with 15+ years of experience, working primarily with private foundation grants, government contracts, and corporate partnerships. She has been with Bread for the City for nearly 13 years, performing a variety of roles from grant writer to managing communications, direct mail, and e-appeal programs, to now working with a team of three to manage Bread for the City's Institutional Giving program. Bread for the City, which celebrated its 50th year of service in 2024, is a direct service nonprofit in Washington, DC, which serves DC residents living on low-income. A wrap-around service provider, Bread for the City offers medical care, social services, legal assistance, and clothing and diapers to DC families living at or below 200% of the poverty line -- all free of charge and in an atmosphere of dignity and respect.
Kristen was born and raised in Northern California before moving to Washington, DC to complete her Masters Degree in Public Anthropology at American University. Serendipitously, Bread for the City was hiring a grant writer just as her student loans were kicking in, and she has been with them ever since. After nearly a decade in DC, Kristen now resides in Seattle, Washington, where her husband teaches English at the University of Washington and they spend a lot of time doting on their cats. She continues to work remotely for Bread for the City and enjoys visiting DC as often as possible to spend time with colleagues.
